May Fair 2008

Well, I made it through another May Fair! This was only my second art festival and let me first say, they are a lot of work! It's funny- long ago when I would attend art festivals I would see the artists, sitting on their tall director's chairs, soaking in the sun, chit chatting with the other artists, and would think to myself, how fun would that be- not a bad way to spend a weekend. But, surprise, it's not really like that! By the first day of the festival, I was exhausted. I had spent so many long nights leading up to the festival painting new material, painting and assembling the structures for the art to hang on, creating signage, printing business cards, and all the other minutia, that by the time Day One rolled around I was ready to sit in my director's chair and take a nap! Until I think of another way that an artist can meet one's 'audience', get direct feedback from art patrons and other artists, while getting a tan and eating footlong corn dogs, I will likely do more festivals! I am grateful to have the opportunity to sell my art, and maybe more importantly I am thankful that my art makes people happy, makes them smile, gives them the 'warm fuzzies' .
